Pemko Interlocking Thresholds for Residential Exterior Doors

The combination of Interlocking Threshold and J-Hook is used to seal the gap between the floor surface and the bottom of a door. This diagram shows how these components work together to prevent air and water infiltration:

Features of Pemko Interlocking Thresholds:

#61 Interlocking J-Hook

  • NOTE: We recommend that these thresholds be installed by a carpenter or contractor or other person with experience hanging doors. Installation involves cutting the aluminum threshold to exactly fit the opening, rehanging the door, as well as cutting and rabbeting the door bottom. Pemko does not provide installation instructions.

  • These thresholds are manufactured in two different materials:
    • Aluminum. All thresholds are available in aluminum, either with a mill finish or a variety of anodized finishes. These thresholds are manufactured of extruded tempered aluminum, 6063-T6.

    • Solid Brass. Only specified thresholds are available in mill finish solid brass. These thresholds are manufactured of extruded brass, CDA alloy C38500. This is a leaded brass alloy (57% copper, 40% zinc, 3% lead) and is sometimes referred to as "architectural bronze".

    • A note on finishes: Mill finish means plain smooth metal - as it comes from the mill - with no coating. Anodizing is an electrolytic process that applies a corrosion-resistant coating to aluminum.

  • All thresholds (including water return types) are furnished standard with a #61 J-Hook and nails to attach it to the rabbet on the bottom of the door.
    • Here is an enlarged view of the #61 hook, which is supplied in .015" zinc alloy (Z61) with the aluminum thresholds, and in .018" bronze (B61) with the brass thresholds:
