Shipping & Returns
Below are some common questions about shipping, returns, and exchanges
Delivery times can vary depending on the manufacturer, product availability, and how your order is fulfilled.
Items that are currently in stock at Builders Lock & Hardware will generally ship the fastest. Special-order items may require additional time for the manufacturer to produce or prepare the product before it can be shipped. Some products may also be drop shipped directly from the manufacturer, and shipping times will depend on that manufacturer’s current inventory and processing schedule.
Because many door hardware products are available in specific finishes, functions, sizes, handings, and configurations, lead times can vary significantly from one product to another.
When available, estimated lead times will be shown on the product page or provided after your order is placed. Once your order ships, you will receive tracking information by email. If you need an item by a specific date, we recommend contacting Builders Lock & Hardware before ordering so we can help confirm current availability and estimated shipping time.
We want to make returns as straightforward as possible. Most standard, regularly stocked items may be returned if they are unused, uninstalled, and in their original packaging, subject to the terms of our Return Policy.
Because door hardware is often ordered in specific finishes, functions, keying options, handings, and configurations, some products may not be eligible for return. This can include special-order items, custom or made-to-order products, keyed or rekeyed locks, cut keys, modified hardware, and certain manufacturer-direct items.
Returned products must be in resalable condition and may be subject to a manufacturer or restocking fee, when applicable. Original shipping or special-order charges may also be non-refundable.
If you believe you ordered the wrong item, we recommend contacting Builders Lock & Hardware before installing or opening unnecessary packaging. Our team can help confirm compatibility and walk you through the return process.
Once your order ships, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information. Simply click the tracking link in that email to view the latest updates from the carrier.
Please allow 24–48 hours after receiving your shipping confirmation for tracking information to become active.
Some orders may contain products from multiple manufacturers or fulfillment locations. In these cases, your order may arrive in multiple shipments, and you may receive a separate tracking number for each shipment.
If you have not received tracking information or have questions about the status of your order, please contact Builders Lock & Hardware with your order number and we’ll be happy to help.
Door hardware
Below are some of are common questions about ordering door hardware
The most important measurements are your door thickness, backset, bore hole size, and the distance between holes for handlesets or multipoint hardware. Product pages should list the required dimensions. If you are unsure, contact us with photos and measurements and we can help identify the correct hardware.
Stand on the outside or keyed side of the door and look at the hinges. If the hinges are on the left, the door is generally left-handed. If the hinges are on the right, it is generally right-handed. Some manufacturers use different handing conventions, so check the product description or contact us if you are unsure.
Passage hardware turns freely and does not lock, making it ideal for closets and hallways.
Privacy hardware locks from the inside and is commonly used for bathrooms and bedrooms.
Dummy hardware does not turn or latch and is commonly used on inactive doors or decorative applications.
Keyed entry hardware locks from the exterior with a key and is commonly used on exterior doors.
Look for a manufacturer name or number stamped on the latch, lock body, faceplate, hinge, cylinder, or other hardware. Clear photos of the front, back, edge of the door, and any markings are extremely helpful.
Yes. Multipoint locks can be difficult to identify because measurements and configurations vary widely. Send us photos along with measurements such as backset, handle spacing, overall lock length, and locking-point locations.
